Solan, a popular summer resort, lies midway between Kalka and Shimla at a height of 1477 metres (4800 ft.), it is connected with two places by rail and road. Since the partition of the country, Solan became an important educational, cultural, administrative and tourist centre. M.C, Solan is spread over an area of 33.43 km2 with a residential population of 1,02,078. “It is the largest Municipal Council of Himachal”, but now it is being upgraded to Municipal Corporation which will be second in Himachal after Shimla MC.
